SCHOOL DISASTER PREPAREDNESS | 10-10-2025

Earthquake Drill

In the past few days, the Philippines has been struck by a series of strong earthquakes — a 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu on September 30, 2025, and a 7.6-magnitude earthquake in Davao on October 10, 2025. These seismic events caused tremors that were also felt in nearby provinces, including areas within the Rinconada District. Such incidents serve as a strong reminder that natural hazards can occur at any time, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and safety awareness.

In response, Caranday National High School, under the leadership of School Head Sir Marlon B. Lamadrid, and through the initiative of the School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) Coordinator, Mr. Aldrin C. Competente, conducted an earthquake drill on October 10, 2025. The activity aimed to strengthen the readiness of the school community and to ensure that everyone is equipped with the knowledge and proper response during an actual earthquake.

The drill was actively participated in by students, teachers, non-teaching personnel, and student teachers from Baao Community College. During the simulation, participants performed the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure and calmly proceeded to the designated evacuation area following the school’s safety protocols. Overall, the earthquake drill successfully raised awareness and reinforced the culture of preparedness within the CNHS community. Through this activity, everyone was reminded of the importance of staying alert, calm, and cooperative during emergency situations.
